Touch Up Question for the painters
Hey guys,
I have a few nicks in my car, and I have some left over paint from painting my fenderwells and dash. It matches the car. I have tried using it for nicks in the past, using a paper match to fill in the nicks. It did not dry well and it occured to me I need to add some hardner. To spray I use paint, thinner and hardner, I don't think I need thinner for this. What ratio of paint to hardner should I use to make up a little batch for brush type touch ups? The paint is PPG single stage called concept.
thanks

Depends on which hardner you've got. DCX9 or DCX61 are 1 part to 4 parts DCC (Concept), DU5 or 6, is 1 to 2, and DFX11 is 1 to 1. For a small amount to touch up you can eyeball it.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Like he said, eyeball it... Most of the time it's 1:1 with things like Omni, etc. High end DBC PPG paint is 4:1. I'd say add the paint, a little hardener and some reducer. Reducer all depends on how much you need it to run out, etc. Some people don't even use hardener, I know that when I do small touch ups I don't use hardener in the paint and it does just fine, I only add it to the clear.www.streamlineautocare.com

it will air dry with out any hardener but if you are going to sand it flat and wheel it then you may want to add some but you can add to much . not much is better than to much hardener. i have drip it off a awl in to a bottle cap or a new paint top lid. count and drips for the right amount of hardener and mix it up with a paint stick and used the awl to work it in the chipIrish Diplomacy ..the ability to tell someone to go to Hell ,,So that they will look forward to to the trip

Thanks guys that is exactly what I needed, I will let you know how it works out. Pat that tip about dripping it off an awl is a great one, I was trying to figure out how to measure just a little bit.
