Hey everyone, New Guy here, and i have a few questions, i tried to search with no luck. I have a 53 Chrysler Windsor that i am restoring, the body is pretty straight with small dent or two in it. There is a few surface rust spots that i have found so far. What i am wanting to do is go through the whole car, and clear up any rust or body damage i find. Im taking off all the trim, emblems, handles and so on. I will be filling in many of the trim holes with body solder. and the bigger ones will be welded. After all is said and done i plan on going with flat black as the paint or is just basicall just black primer??Anyhow i have started sanding the car down and noticed quite a few coats and a little rust. What i want to do is sand it down to bare metal, do all my body work, clear up any rust i find, fix any problems i encounter and then paint it. I live in arizona and the car is kept in the garage at all times, When sanding down to bare metal am i ok with it being bare metal for a while or will it start to rust? ive found so much different info on that so im not sure. Once all the body work is done and the car is bare metal what kind of procedures do i go about in painting it? Self etching primer i heard i have to do to prevent it from rusting and to allow the other primer to stick better...Could you guys give me a little insight on going about this if i have it planned right? what i should do and how to do it in terms of sanding down to bare metal, keeping it from rusting, if the car is ok to sit in my garage for a while when it has been sanded to bare metal, painting on bare metal and so on. Thanks again for your guy's help on this, its much appreciated.
