I am going to paint my sandblasted truck frame with Por15 (good stuff I paint a trailer with it a few weeks back). I have filled some of the holes in the frame and have grinded the welds flush but they have small low spots where I grinded it down. I was thinking I can use JB weld to fill sand smooth and paint with the por15. Will JB weld work?
you can use a good body filler it will work just fine and would be better to work with or a glass filler. i like to use the tig with 1/6steel filler rod or a mig set cool just to fill in the pits and hit it with 36 grit and go to 60 grit with angle grinder then up to 80 to 120 on a da at this point done you will not have much at all to fill less the frame is very pitted

if it is hard it will crack why would you not want to use body filler ? filler will flex it holds up good.there still is some filler on my moms drive way from 1980 i think it was blue moon filler
Just use a high quality body filler, my personal choice is Evercoat Rage Gold...
you can use a brass filler rod with a OX torch to but you have to get all the flux of the frame body filler holds up good for a cold fix have used the gold filler you can go over sanded epoxy with it
Those new epoxies are great stuff and I have used alot of them,...this a epoxy with metal properties.I believe them when they say it just as durable as the original steel that was there.I have used plastic epoxies and the piece will never break there again,it may break 10 more times in a different place,my computer headphines get sat on ocassionally, about 2 times a week:LOL:
Very good point there ! I also do have welding tools but kinda dont want to add something I will have to grind down again. The areas I want to fill are not bad at all ,but just not "perfect" I am thinking of doing the frame with a glossy look. On the other hand dont know how the gloss of por15 will hold up to years of use ,might be better just to do a flat finish.Quote:
