Hi:
I am getting close to painting my 47 Chevy and recently went looking for quotes.
So far the average cost is around $8000 for base coat / clear coat.
Is that the going rate nowadays for water based paint jobs?

I have stripped the car down to bare metal and sprayed on 2 coats of PPG DP40LF epoxy primer and 2 coats of PPG K36 urethane primer.

I will take the body to the paint shop still on the car rotisserie and they would do the firewall and door jams. I would then take it back home, put it on the frame, add the fenders and hood and return it to the paint shop for the rest of the paint.

let them color the whole body. i paint in pieces and sometimes months apart. if i had one that was a problem all that would be needed is sanding , doing a tie coat and reclearing. beats getting all the overspray on your chassis and parts.

yep thats how i did them to no jam taping work no lines no over spray nice and wet thru out .i had all my color base mixed at the same then split it and two gallons can if a needed more then a gallon.i kept a log on how i shot it for air psi .thinner and temp .shot parts as they laid on the car

i pour all my paint into qrt cans right after mixing. makes it easier to mix and color stays true .
