Home powder coating-is it safe??.
Recently I read on another site that some powder coatings give off harmful flumes while baking and that is why the powder coat ovens have fans on them.I thought I could just pick up a old used electric home oven and wire it into my shop for stuff like the size of a wheel on down.
So is it safe to do that???.

There are no more harmful fums in powdercoating then what you would have from any aerosols like WD-40, brake clean etc. I know lots of guys who have an old oven in their shop to powder small parts.
best advice before you powder anything is make sure the metal is really clean. Bead blasted is the best way to clean a part. And make sure you pre-heat any part to allow for out gassing.
If you don't pre-heat in some cases after you coat , the metal will produce small bubbles in the powder that you cannot get out unless you start again.

If you are concerned at all just put a small fan setup on the back of the oven and vent it out like a dryer is vented. I would do that anyway just to try and keep the paint smell down as much as possible. Just watch your temps.Bug

Is it based on the brand name of the power coat for the temps or is there a general temp all of them use for preheat and baking??. The first items I was considering is a set of aluminum wheels. Then suspension parts like a-frames,spindles,etc. Of course taping off the bearing areas.
