Ok time for your help Please . As I build my 40 Ford P/U I find myself at the point where I have to spray some primer on the cab after I have it Soda blasted. Looking for inputs as to what I should use. Thanks Oh yea that's Rookie Painter not a Rooky painter.
Spray it with a good two part epoxy primer.
so looking to start trouble here :) i would start with a good paint mask . the stuff can make you very sick . then you will need a good line air dryer to keep water out of the paint . i done many body and other thing that were raw clean steel . your will get many ways to go. but this worked the best for me wipe down the body with a wax/grease remover like ppg330 . i like the select etch primer or dupont variprime shoot 2 to 3 coats down let it dry good scuff with a red 3 m pad then i sealed it with epoxy then coated with primer/filler
Since you had the body soda blasted, you want to make sure you remove ALL the residual left from the blasting. I have heard horror stories on having lots of trouble with the paint not bonding due to the soda.
I would talk to any professional body shop guy and ask what needs to be done before you prime anything.
Yup,,and I have seen the problems..Be very careful prepping after..I think a gallon of wax n grease remover,would help..;) wash it down with that a couple of times..One of the problems,is,that it leeches out of the seams in the body,,and creates havoc after the top coat is on.. Need to be ANAL about cleanliness after soda blasting in particular..Quote:
