Thread: How much ?

This thread is remaining reasonable on the subject (one of the benefits of a small audience I guess), but I'm still amazed when those who don't buy refinish products either regularly or at all seem shocked when you tell them it's easy to drop $1500 on up to the sky on ALL the materials required to do a good refinish. Abrasives (good ones anyway) are up there, as is a roll of good tape for that matter.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Jeep Gladiator - 2 Gal Paint (two diff colors. 1 Gal $150 (simple manila color) other $350 (Green Celery) because of metal flakes. 2 Gal is more than I need) + primer, reducer, hardener, sand paper, etc. Has cost me just about $1K. Now to get started...The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.

on a full size car , not a tuna boat , you will come very close to 3k in material cost. cheap paint saves no money. 2nd lines do not cover well so you use more and risk solvent pop . there are quality top shelf paints out there at a decent price so chose carefully. keep in mind sumitt , eastwood and the like do not make paint. they relabel cheap stuff.

Heck Bob I'm not really amazed at all, I used to buy a beer for .25 cents and now they cost $2.50. The only difference is, is that I drank beer for the last 40 years so I was aware of the inflation . Besides in this day and age nothing should amaze anybody, just look at DC antics.

I'm amazed how much you guys are paying for paint !!!
In a decent make like Lechlar over here you get a UK gallon for $160 by the time it's thinned 2-1 you have 1.5 gallons which would be plenty for a small truck
.Its aweful lonesome in the saddle since my horse died.
Ditto on the model kits! My best were lost when the Hobby Shop burned under suspicious circumstances....
