Hey guys, I was wandering what I would have to do to use PPG Epoxy primer. How much would I need to paint a full size f-250 truck, reg. cab. Do I need to sand it after I spray it??? what?? I have decided to spray a PPG Concept paint over that. Give me your thoughts please.

It might not hurt to get the P-sheet from the Paint Jobber you get your paint from.

Hey Spray tech I'm using the PPG Concept on my latest project and heard that it is good stuff. I was wandering if you could email me some pictures of some vehicles that you sprayed the DCC line on. If you have any at all. I thought about the deltron and global but really like the Concept single stage idea. Well send me what you got!!
SprayTech, I'm new to this forum and currently working on a project with my 11 year old son. Wants it to be his car, so he wants it to have the black primer look. I know primer will not last as a paint. Have been told that "John Deere tractor Blitz black will give us that look. Have you ever heard of this. What would your recomend, would like to try and paint it ourselves (a first):whacked: Thanks
If you want a sandable primer-sealer, then Transtar's "ultra" line works great. Just read the directions on the back, get a bucket, and do it. It will take a gallon to do the truck- the same amount for paint, as long as you don't spill. I would get an extra quart on paint to be on the safe side.
Also for the black look i have seen guys have the black primer and have sealer added to the primer to get better protection and have heard of usin the blitz black too!

I dont have any pics of the vehicles I have shot with concept as I dont keep a camera at work.
I used to have some pics of some custom work I did years ago , but I think they got threw out when I got married when the wife helped with my packing , if I still have them I have no clue where they would be .
I will give you some information on how PPG reccomends spraying concept.
You can add copatiable Mixed clear into your mixed color to make it go farther , or you can add mixed clear into your last coat of color for added UV protection.
what I mean by this is mix your color per directions , then mix your clear per directions and then add clear to color.
I will also tell you Concept has a delayed flow action to it , looks like its going on pealy, but give it a few seconds and it should flow nice.
I am writing up a deal to post here on GUN TIPS.
It will give you the reccomended sizes for different materials .
Every Paint product has its best gun settings for Sparying their products.

I'm using a Sata for every type of paint except DP however, I think I preper a model 7 for DCC.
We would all be apreciative for the spray gun thing especially me!!as i limit my posts to the most difficult questions as not to overload the helpin hand!!!:) thnx
Don , That sata should spray DCC excellent if you have the correct air cap and fluid nozzle and needle.
I spray concept with a 1.6 Accuraspray all the time and get great results.
It will also help on saving paint consumption using the HVLP Sata . that binks & will flat go through the material beings you need alot more air pressure to get it to atomize it and get it to flow.
In my gun tips I think I mentioned the new high solids are formulated to the New HVLPS , but not quite in those words.
Some of these new guns sip the paint instead of hosing it on ..LOL
I used to use a Pressuer cup Mattson gun and has been rebuilt 3 times since 1988 and its so wore out it its not worth rebuiling again, but that gun I could paint a regular cab long bed pick up with 3 quarts sprayable color , that was 3 coats too.
I miss using that gun too, but it takes a mountain or CFM's too !!!!!! It would give an air compressor a work out ...LOL

I'm not real familuar with the Blitz Black as I have never used it as I have my own way of doing the same thing , even though it might be more expensive in the long run.
I want to know what I spray on the vehice will protect the metal from moisture from penetrating the top coat and rusting the metal !( whether flat or shiny)
I know alot of guys are using it and swear by it , and am sorry I cannot give you a good answer on using it or not.
I actually have to pick up my John Deere tractor from the shop tomarrow ( the blade clutch went out ) and might see if they have any information on this paint product and see if I can read up on it and give you my oppinion.

Hey SPRAY TECH I've ran into another problem!!! I can't find a clear that I can mix into my Concept. I need to find a clear that can be mixed with DU-5. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you could since you're the PPG man, tell me the correct Clear that I can mix in with my Concept. I am using DU-5 hardener with DX 61 reducer. Thanks alot man!!!

DCX- 61 should be a catylist for concept or
(DCC )is reduced with DT 860-870 or 885
I think DX-61 is a hardner for DBC base coat.
DU-5 is compatiable with 2021 and DCC or concept!
I for got the C in the DCX 61 in my other posts.

So what you're saying is that I can use DCu-2021 Mixing clear in my paint? So I'm going to buy a quart of mixing clear and 8oz. of hardener for it? tell me, and thanks a whole lot.
When DCC/Concept came out ,PPG recomended
adding a little bit of compatiable clear in the color when coverage was achieved ( like DCU- 2021).
What this did was make the color go farther and added extra UV protection.
BUT! you make darn sure you are using the same catylist for both products, as DU-5 and DCX-61
I dont think are compatiable.
SO , if you have DU-5 for your color
get DU-5 for the clear.
I found my old PPG book and heres what is says:
Color with Clear option 1
* Concept DCU-2021, DCU 2002 clears that have been catalyzed with DU hardners can be mixed with DCC Concept color reduced and catalyzed with DU hardners. You then can spary 2 more coats.
* making sure 15 minutes flash time inbetween coats.
Option 2*
- Clear mixed with the last coat of DCC color · Ready-to-spray (RTS) DCU2002, DCU2021, DCU2035 & DCU2042 with DCX Hardeners can be mixed with RTS DCC Color with DCX Hardeners. · * For best results allow 15 – 20 minutes flash before mixing clears in last coat.
If you go to that PPG site and go to : Product Information tab , Paint line, Deltron then click,
It will then go to another screen , on the left hit the drop down menu and go to TOPCOATS , then submit button.
Then in the list 2nd one down is Concept Color,
to the right is a product sheet , click that and it will pull up all the Info you will need, dry times, paint gun settings, everything.
If you read that it will answer most all of your questions.

So What I should do is Mix my paint with Du-5 and DT-885, and then mix my Clear with Du-5 and Dt-885. After I mix the too separtetly then MIX THEM TOGETHER? Is this what you are telling me. ?????
I know your probably getting irritated with me but this is helping me tons, I'm more of a CENTARI man, but when it comes to my own vehicles I want the Best Of the Best. Thanks man and tell me. Thanks a whole lot!!!

I would spray 2 coats first with out clear, then add clear to color and spray 2 more coats.
Not irritated at all , Your going to spend a sum of money and want you to have good results.
You dont HAVE to add clear to your color, but PPG says it gives added gloss and UV protection , not to sound like a broken record here . :3dSMILE:
I dont spray alot of Concept any more as everything I spray is Base/Clear and to keep factory warrenty I stay Base / Clear.
Black is about the only thing I will spray in Concept.
