It may be rare in the USA but the Taunus was as common as the Opel and VW in Germany when I was there in 1969 and 70. It was a low priced, high volume produced car for the masses. In comparison to presant times here in the USA think used Cavalier.
It is cool and unusual for a hot rod though.

If building old cars just for resale instead of what your into they should all be bright red like 50% of the cars you see at most NSRA events if you build for the fun you build what you want.
Haha I agree. A friend of mine and me went to Good Guys shows here all the time and noticed MOST (literally) were PPG red. LOL. They all said PPG red on the paper in the window.

I think you are slicing the rat pie a bit thin.....a rat ride is any low end (low dollar) build (think salvage yard) and can be any color or configuration depending on the owners depth of pockets that paticular week ...so dont just look for one flavor my friend ..they are endless

Okay Mort, the first thing I will point out to you is that I made that post on 8/30/03, you didn't join this forum until almost a year later than that. My knowledge of you and your truck did not predate your membership. Second, since it is over two years ago it's not exactly fresh in my mind, but as I recall I was referring to a post with a pic that has since been deleted, probably one of Streets since they're all gone now. Your truck doesn't fall into the category I would classify as a hobby changing indicator. If I'm going to rank you personally you won't have to ask "Is it me?", you'll know.

Just for fun I reread a few from the first page and nearly all the photos that are referred to in each post are gone, must be a result of one of our previous server failures.

What is a rat themed boat?
Just the usual. The whole thing looks old. Little bit of rust on the pipes(big water cooled Basset headers) and air cleaner(for the 850 holley DP). Flat black. White walls on the trailer, red steel rims. Took out the bucket seats and used a bench from a '71 duster. Orange pinstripe. All in perfect working condition, but I didnt have a rat project at the time that I fixed the boat so I used my Imagination a little and built what I would consider a rat boat. Next time I'm near the boat I'll get a picture. Just got the truck so I thought I would Get it going to pull the boat around. The stares should be something to see when I pull into the dock with those for the first time. Just have to fix the brakes on the truck and it'll be ready. When I brought the apache home it didnt run(had been setting for twenty years) and was full of field mice and wasp. The driver side wheel didnt roll so I'm thinking its just the brake drum locked up. Too bad of weather to find out yet.
