what do I do to raise seats?

I got a couple 'Bomber' seats off Ebay for $100/ shipped. there really vintage 1970's swivel stool chairs, but the stool parts are gone ( also 1970's gold fabric so they gotta be reapoulstered ).. but there is a problem I really did not think about when I bought them. by calculations, my hotrod body is getting built to fit me ( by me ), and that includes a 12" seat riser to put my head at a comfy sight level. the body is 48" wide, 47" long and 47.5" tall.. seats are 19" wide, 18" deep and 22" high, and the cowl is 16" deep.. how am I going to make a 12" rise on bomber seats look good?

couldn't you adjust the channeling of the body over the fram?

Wow! A 12" rise is a lot for a bomber! With the adjustable risers pictured the max is 6.5", so if you modified their design you would have to use 8" angle sections and I can't see those looking very cool (or being real stable). If bomber seats are your choice and channeling is not in your plan seems to me you are left with making a "box" about 8" high, smoothing the corners and edges, and carpeting it, then use the risers that 406Rich suggests; or just make your box 12" and mount direct. Do you need front to back adjustment for driver's of different height? Maybe a different style seat that has more section height in the bottom would be a better choice? Like buckets out of a mid-60's muscle car or t-bird or ??? I think it is going to be hard to get the right "look" with bomber style seats, given the seat height criteria you have outlined, but that is just my $0.02 and seat selection is a personal thing.

"Bomber seats" I once used end links from a M48A3 tank under a set of bucket seats--heavy duty!!!

theres no way I can adjust the channeling. lower framework has been built ontop of the frame, and theres no way to change it short of lots of fabrication..

how about the riser all the way across and build a center console in the center of it?.. they don't have to move, but that feature would be nice..

I think I might be ok. the seats have about 2" of padding+ the base is 3/4" plywood, so I should be able to lower the seats themselves by 1.5" I think, and I remeasured and It was 10" that I need and not 12". so 9.5" riser might not be too bad

Matt, are these "70's swivel stool chairs" the old flexy plastic barstools? If so I would not consider them safe for a vehicle, especially being thirty year old plastic that was designed for stationary use in the home. Again, my opinion, and I did not notice the '70's reference at first.

no I wouldn't use the hard plastic/ fiberglass stools.. there 3/4" plywood base and a steel upper frame..

Here are a couple of shots of mine. If we are close I can tell you more

matt how about a false floor all the way to the toe board or fire wall maybe 6 or 7 in. you could put some hinged doors in it and use it for storage,radio tool box ect. just a thought......ted

false floor might work well. I'll have to see if I can fit that in
