    Impala Rear window installation

Can anyone give me any tips on installing a rear window in a 64 impala ( 2 door SS )? I read the instructions in the shop manual and I'm a little scared.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't know if I can tell you anything that isn't in the manual. I put sealer inside the rubber before I slip it over the glass. Then put sealer in the outer channel before I wrap the string around it. The string should start and end at one of the bottom corners. This makes it a real messy job so I wear gloves and put newspaper down on the package tray to keep the nasty string from getting sealer all over it. Pull the string across the bottom to get the rubber over the lip. Then go outside and push it down as far as you can over the lip. Work back and forth from one side to the other till both sides are over the lip. Push it in from the outside and then finish across the top. I used to use dish soap to lube the rubber and seal them after they were installed but had leaking problems. I would rather clean up the mess from the sealer than deal with leaks later.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. The whole interior is out of the the car so making a mess isn't such a big deal!
