Found it. I was searching for an article I had seen some time ago about molasses and rust removal, and found it in “The Plymouth Bulletin”, Vol. 39, no.2 1998. I’ve tried it and it works. Slow, but effective. 1 part molasses to 4 parts water. I’ve used a five gallon spackle bucket, and filled about halfway up. Place parts in, and wait 2-4 weeks (better and faster if in a warm place). Remove piece, rinse with water and dry off, then wire brush or wheel it, and paint and rust comes off. Just a tip to pass on. The author mentioned that the guy he learned it from was doing the whole car (fenders, panels, etc.) since the metal was thin, and blasting would probably distort the old metal.
