question what is recomended on an old sedan frame replace or redo the original. I found an old ford explorer as a new frame but will have to modify the front clip to install. or I have an old 86 chev 1/2 ton p/u but will have to shorten the length.

Sounds like a good plan, except when you are done you still have the car riding on a pickup frame. All of the springs and shocks will be way too heavy for the chebbie body. There are numerous companies that make IFS suspension kits for the frame that is under the car. One of these kits will render the correct shocks and springs for the car, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, and in my opinion a much nicer package with a lot higher resale. JMO
Sounds good but I wanted to try to get away from the knee action suspension up front.
That is what Dave is saying. You could use a Mustang 2 front clip, which replaces the knee action front clip.Quote:

Not a MII front clip, a kit designed especially for the 40 Ford frame. It is only called MII because that is the geometry it is copied after, a Mustang II is a unibody car, making it very difficult to put the clip on a full framed car. Again, a package (kit if you will) of specially designed crossmember and components to replace the crossmember and components on your '40
Look at the picture of the Merc frame in my gallery, it would be a package similar to that, with coil overs instead of air bags. I am not saying some worn out 25 year old suspension clip that you weld on to your frame !!!!!!!
