There is a lot of info on doing a frame swap using a S-10. Just do a Google search on "S-10 frame swap".
Good luck, Don
Thanks Don. I know a guy who has this friend that is selling his S10 with no motor or tranny. It's an 80's I think but he said he doesn't know if it's and extended longer cab or shorter so I have to find out which one I need and see. He said I may be able to get the whole thing for 100 bucks. If this S10 is in good shape I'd hate to tear it up, those IMO would make a nice little drag truck if built right. But if it's in really bad shape of course I will maybe get it and use the cab for sheet metal. How much power can those S10 rear ends take anyways? A friend of mine has one behind his 31 Chevy 5 Window and he has a built up 350 with tons of power and all blueprinted and balanced, double carbs, aluminum heads, huge cam, etc etc. And in a little car like that it's gotta be pushing at least 400-450hp from all the stuff he has done to it if not more.
Don, I will do the search and see what I can find. I am going to search around the Chevytalk.com forums and look in the 1948 section to see if anyone there has done the swap.
Thanks guys.
sorry to say but you are nuts .a s10 frame ?? the stock frame you have ?? the s10 fits a s10 . your frame is made to fit your car mounting braces to body fit and gas tank works you fram fits the bottom of your car . the s10 rear end is junk it will not take much power with out spending big $$ ford 9 s are chep an good there will be no room for a big block in the s10 fram . i do know i build headders a lot of work. if the work looks good on your frame keep it. set your suff on the front and see if it will work fit the wheels hang out get short a arms this would be a lot less work think. think. before your make a move i will get you some info later to day:whacked:
IMHO Short A-arms creat other problems . They are not a good solution to a front suspension that is too wide. It is better to install a front suspension that will fit under your project.
The S-10 rear is weak & it is always better to use your original frame & change the suspension. You reduce the value of the vehicle by using another frame.....at least the 2 I did by changing the frame made it harder to sell. I put a 41 Ford conv't on a 72 Chevelle frame & had to practically give it away. You save no money by doing a frame swap
Don
Alright. Well I guess what I will do is just use skinnier tires and then widen all the fenders.... Looks like the only way right now. I hate when I have to fix other peoples screw ups. Not sure why the idiot that put this thing on here didn't think of the width first. Before I bought the car I specifically asked the guy many times if the front end will work and he said yes that it will. I will go talk to him in a couple days and tell him what I found out and see what he says. The guy is a real nice guy, it's the guy BEFORE the guy I bought it from that put the front end on. Oh well, I have about 3 months before I start this project, right now I need to get my truck up to par and then I will throw that body on the frame, put it all together and throw some 245/6015's on the front and see how they fit. If they don't then the skinniest I will so will be 205, even that is too skinny for me but nothing much else I can do.
i can not see a using short a arms a problem. the spring rate mite need to be changed . it could ride hard but that is not to hard to fix .this is not as hard as trying to get a big block in the s 10 sub .i check my 50 chevy it is 70 1/2 rim to rim with the cam front sub with stock a arms with 5 inch rims .i can get shorter by cutting the back faces of the rim 70 so if you go with steel rims custom go for more off set you could go down to 69 or 69 1/2 easily**)
Alright thanks Pat! Will air bags hold up such a heavy car with a big block? If not then I will have to go a 383 stroker motor. The only thing now that I need to decide is what wheels and tires and what motor. It will either be a 454 or 383 and then whitewalls and steelies or something like American Racing and nice 60 series tires.... Maybe even a Caddy motor since now I hear they are lighter than a 454 with aluminum heads... :?
