How much does an engine move under torque?
I just set up my steering and to clear my headers I had to get pretty close to the engine.
Attached is a picture of the little knub sticking out of the engine and it's proximity to the steering shaft. It has a hair more than 1/8" clearance while sitting.
Am I asking for trouble?
Could I maybe just grind that knub a little bit off the engine, it doesn't seem like that piece serves a purpose; the knub I'm talking about is right in the center of the pic.
The engine will move up and right under torque, Codi. From the angle of this picture it looks like your clearance should be ok. Should be fine to grind a bit off the casting boss if you think it will hit.
I thought it would only move away from that shaft, I wasn't sure if it still kind of bounced back in that direction or something.
Didn't want to wind up losing my steering on the road.
I think I'll grind a bit off that tab anyhow to feel better.

Codi, you could also make a travel limiter out of a piece of cable, then you would be doubly sure that it wouldn't hit the shaft.
do you mean something to tie to the engine to keep it from moving much?
what would I connect it to on the engine?
just tie it to the mount or something and then connect that to the frame?
