I just purchased a 1934 plymouth 4 door sedan body. I will start building the frame next week, and should have the thing rolling in 30 days or so The rest of the build should go quick because it is going to be a Rat Rod. I was told that the vin# is on the frame, so how do I get a legitamate vin tag so I can register this thing as a 1934?? Any help out there?

Did you get the original frame with the body? If you did, I'd stamp that frame number on the new frame in the same location. There is no law against replacing a frame.

If you don't have the original frame, you'll have to check with your state about titling the car. Some will only let you title the car as 'assembled' and they will issue their own VIN.

The illegal way is getting a title from another '34 Plymouth and retitling your car as that '34. The problem here would be if the frame ends up with someone else. Especially if they end up in the same state. He who has the frame gets the VIN.

If you buy an original frame, even without a title or body, it can be used for VIN purposes. If you do this, cut out the VIN and keep it in a safe place and restamp this number on your new frame.

However you handle this issue, have a VIN plate made up and put it where it can be seen, like the firewall, inner fender well, 'A' pillar, 'B' pillar, etc. If anything happens to the car (collision, fire, theft, etc.) the car can be more readily identified. Try to have this done on a steel plate as it's more likely to survive a fire. Being in the insurance business, a bad VIN or being unable to locate a VIN can delay the repair/settlement process.

Thank you!! I actually found a frame not too long ago that was trash, but I did not check for the vin. I will have to see if the guy still has it for vin purposes. If anyone else out there has a 34 Plymouth frame that is junk with a good vin, I would be interested.
