I have a 61 chevy pickup, i put a small block chevy engine in it and a 700r4 trans. left the original rear end and i have a problem, i don't have a drive shaft that fits it. No good. i have the original driveshaft, too long and one out of a 86 chevy truck, too long. does anyone know of a driveshaft i can get out of another car or do i have to get this one cut and balanced? Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure what your budget is, but I have had 2 brand new drivelines made in the past for two different rigs and the prices beat the aspirin needed to find the parts to do it myself. The one in my hot rod, my '53, for a COMPLETE unit that will take more HP and torque than what my engine puts out was only $225. My 4x4 had a complete driveline made and was right at $300. I don't even know what the "going rate" is for a good price on a driveline, but I have been VERY pleased with the place I used, absolutely no problems....just your local driveline service place with a good history.
I guess i will just one made there is a guy out here that does it alot and he is really good and he will cut and balance one i have for 90 bucks.
Another option is scrounging the bone yard to find one the right length. That's what I did when I replaced the two piece in my '62 longbed. The driveshaft never gave me any problems, but I went through 3 rearends before I got rid of it.
