primer it
Someone mentioned wiping the frame down with automatic transmission fluid. I would rather do that than prime it. Would the ATF cause any problems with paint later?
I would think ATF will most certainly cause paint problems!Quote:

Is this white metal or film coated with something?
All metal is somewhat pourous - ATF will penetrate white metal.
Even white sand blasting may not get it all out!!!!
Why not clean and prime it?
Bert
What was the reasoning behind the ATF? Seems like a big mess to me. Why not primer it and get it over with. Putting ATF on the frame and taking it off in order to prime or powder coat it later seems like alot of extra work.
Does stuff rust quickly at your garage? If it is only six months, does the frame need anything?.......if it is new, it will get a light surface rust but it is easily removed. If in doubt, primer it with a spray rattle can.....but dont try to paint over rattle can primer!!!
Why not? :confused:Quote:

Jason. It will be no problem to get your frame ready to paint even though you leave it in bare metal for several months if you will keep it in a garage or shop that is not open to humid or cold, damp weather. Just take care to wear a long sleeve shirt and a pair of light gloves when working on the frame to keep moisture "sweat" and oil off your skin from getting on the metal. Prep the metal and use a good self etching primer when you paint the finished frame. There is lots of good paint info in another section of the forum. Take time to read through this. It will be well worth your time. Take care and post pictures of your work.
Coat it with picklex 20 . Metal shops use it for long storage of bare metal . Comes in a pump spray bottle and can be primed right over later.
Use Picklex or Ospho It will keep the rust away in a garagefor a short period of time, but why not just prime it now. Sand, Ospho & prime with Epoxy primer . It will now last untill you are ready.
