PCV and SBC finned valve covers

I just picked up a very nice set of SBC finned valve covers on eBay. High quality, six fin, made in Japan, don't care.

One has been cleanly modified for a PCV valve, but the other has no modifications at all. I'm leaning towards an open PCV system because I don't want to change air cleaners from the aluminum velocity stack I have now.

Does anyone have any ideas as to a clean way to install a breather on the non-PCV side? Or, is there an alternative that I haven't seen yet? The intake manifold doesn't have a breather/filler tube, and I'm not completely averse to removing a cover to add oil.

They used to make valve cover breathers that mounted on the side of the valve cover and had a 90 degree bend in them . I don't know if anybody still makes them. carlg

I went on mooneyes web sight they still make the side breathers for about $38.00 ea. carlg

In the late 50s and early 60s Chevy used a combination oil filler and breather tube on the front of the intake manifold. If you like the look consider machining your intake for one. Not all intakes are machinable. Look for one with a round boss on the front.

The Moon valve covers on my roadster have three (1+2) ports machined in. One is for the oil filler. Two (one in each coner) will take a breather or a PVC.

You can feed oil through a PVC port. But it is real hard and real messy out of the quart bottle.

Mooneyes sells three models. Does anyone have any experience using these? I'd like to mount it in the middle facing the intake side, but I'm concerned about clearance with the carburetor linkages. I like their lowboy style, but that appears to stick out the most, so I'm figuring on either of the higher ones, especially the one that hugs the cover, part number MP1800LB.

i use the moon eyes valve covers with no holes. i use the moon 90 degree breather on the front driver side behind the alt. i put the pvc valve in the intake behind the carb just in front of the distributer.
