Hi I have a 1977 corvette and I was wondering how do you get more airflow to the motor. Do you have to do something to the front of the car. I put the K & N filter in the edlebrock 14" inch s/s can on top of the 4 barrel carb. Some horse power was added and it felt great. Please write back thanks.
get a cowl induction hood and hook the air cleaner right to it so it feeds from the cowl preassure alone.
Open it up to a cowl hood as long as the cowl portion is also not a heat extractor. The big killer on intakes and airflow systems is systems that let too much heat in. Many will open up a K&N to the engine bay and leave the engine heat that collects in the engine bay to cook your induction air.

Don’t be fooled by bullsh$t dyno runs and performance lies. Too often companies are forced to sell compromises because of smog. You don’t have this worry but the reason so many companies sell under the hood filters in because of smog and liability. Look at 18 wheelers and racing cars on and off road and the best system around is a remote air filter outside the engine heat.
Because your system already is under your hood your best option is to protect it (directed cover only letting air reach it from the cowl) cool it (insulate the cover) and make sure it reaches the largest "area" of air it can. Yes make sure the connection to the filter to the cowl is large as it can be with the least restrictions.
You could run a long flexible hose from the intake cover to the front of the vehicle; there is a system that uses two flexible lines. The only problem with the system using the flexible lines is they never insulate it so the heat issue becomes a problem again.
The other issues with the hose system is airflow restriction by the amount of bends required to reach the filter and the turbulence created by some hoses. If you use a large hose you an offset the turbulence created by the hose ribs so your only issue is the number of bends. Your stock system with a good cover will have very little restriction.
I know that was too much information.
Even more important the best air intake on your car will never match the gain from a good exhaust or cam, heads, or other notable modification. Add a stack and you will probably gain more than your intake.
