The center sections are the same, some are 28 spline, some are 31 spline. Should pop an axle out of yours and count the splines before you go yardin'

If you decide to go yardin- try to find a '79 Lincoln with the rear disc brake set-up on a 9".
Also, I think you can change the rate of engagement of some limited slip rears.
here's a little info. on the 9" http://www.maliburacing.com/ford_9_i..._nine_inch.htmQuote:

I have a friend that owns a vintage wrecking yard, maybe I could get a limited slip there. Will any Ford 9" posi pumpkin fit? Or are there year model differences? Like bolt pattern, yokes, axles?
That is a very informative page, with the pics and all. I was able to see that I have an early 60's 9".Quote:

slip the old one have 4 holes in them and crack thru the back side of clutch pack and some of the very old ones have two spider in them and they are very hard to get parts for them. the one i have used have 1980s 4 spider in them and clutch s still can be had if needed . on the detrot locker why i do not like them is the drive shaft can move 10% or before the tires hit and so if you get off it and get back on it hammer the sprag it. did find the weak link? $1500 400 trans all the best parts that dose not count $1100 coan 9 inch stall. so now i have the super sprag in it and it was just $850 for it??:HMMM: maybe it is just me 850 hp and 760 tq :whacked:
Get your spline count, check your friends yard out. Almost all early Broncos had posi, but usually had 4.11 gears. I seem to recall that there are several dismantling yards up by Rancho Cordova by the 50 freeway.I wanted to get over there and check them out myself when I was in Sacramento for christmas a couple of years ago. Take a 5 gallon pail, the pumpkin fits right in and makes it a lot easier to carry
Halftanked has a very good point. The early (large bodied) Broncos have 9-inch limited slips and often have 4.11 gears. Nab one if you can. Street rod guys like these housings because they are a little more narrow and thus fit under fenders better.
