I use an el cheapo electric fuel pump with rubber hose stuck down the gas filler neck and pump the old gas into a can. I run the fuel pump off of a car battery and use a toggle switch to turn it off and on.

I too used an elec. fuel pump to get the old gas out off my 70 monte carlo, but I just unhooked manuel fuel pump and hooked my elec. pump to that line that way it let me get almost all the gas out into a clean white plastic bucket, letting me check for dirt and rust ,and on my 47 fleetline it had a drain plug on the tank, and like the gentleman, said I think yours will too !!

I usually find a way to burn it up in one of my other vehicles a little at a time or the lawn mower a little at a time or give some of it away to neighbors to burn. In my old truck, I can use 2 gallons of junk gas with 18 of fresh and it'll never know the difference.PLANET EARTH, INSANE ASYLUM FOR THE UNIVERSE.

As far as getting another tank, my only suggestion is to try Hemmings

There are lots of people out there that can custom build you a new gas tank. It will cost you though. You could put in a fuel cell or try to figure out a tank from another car that would fit. I think the best bet is to repair the one you have. Take it to a radiator repair place and see what they can do with it.

You might be able to find another tank out of a similar Plymouth or Dodge.
I have heard, that sometimes radiator shops would repair gas tanks. You could ask around. They might boil the tank out and be able to solder a patch on it.
Several years ago I picked up a catalog from Performance Radiator. Beside radiators, they sell new gas tanks. They wouldn't have a tank for a 53, but their listings showed the dimensions of all the tanks they had. You might be able to find a tank from a newer car that would you could make work.

Burning old gas isn't the best of ideas. I had about a quart of 15 year old gas I needed to dispose of. I poured it in a metal pan and lit it up. Smoked a little more than I expected (a lot more) so I had to put it out before the neighbors got worried. I live about a block from a fire station. In the end, I just mixed it in with some old oil and let the recycling station deal with it.

I checked with local auto parts store (Advanced Auto parts)(the equivalent of Auto Zone and they had a tank for my 55 chevy car. They wanted 200 bucks for it. I told them i found one in a magazine for 150 and the guy said OK. I really could not believe that they were able to get it. You need to replace the Sending unit at the same time Mine was about 75 bucks, which i havn't put in yet, got to take the tank back out for that.
Ditto on the model kits! My best were lost when the Hobby Shop burned under suspicious circumstances....
How did you get hooked on cars?
