1957 Rear end?
Ok here is something I have been wondering for 2 years now. I am getting answers half and half on this question... Will a 1957 rear end with 3.73 gears hold under the power of a 383 stroker or 350 and a turbo 400 tranny? I have this rear end for my 48 Chevy but some people said it's too weak and other said it's not. The car is a tad heavy I think (big kind of car) and will have a bit of power going to the rear wheels but not a drag car.
I identified the engine before and couldn't figure it out what it was but a few people said it was a 57 rear end.
I'd appreciate any help here guys! Thanks!www.streamlineautocare.com
If you wan't something done right, then you have to do it yourself!

With 3.73 gears, the 57 rear will handle 350 HP or thereabouts on the street. With tall ratios, the pinion is much larger, and I've seen them break the pinion shaft. Never seems to happen with the shorter ratios.
My grandfather, mom's side, drove a 39 Plymouth coupe when I was about 4 or 5 and I thought it was pretty cool and I loved the tail fins on the 49 Cadillac. I drew cars when I was in the 5th and 6th...
How did you get hooked on cars?
