Thread: New mufflers on a 74 Cuda (HELP)

I just recently got myself a 1974 Plymouth Barracuda thats in great condition. It's a 318ci V8, but its got a 4 barrel instead of the stock 2 barrel that came with the 318ci. The engine was built in PA by a guy who specialized in racing engines.

The only issue I have with the car is that it still has stock mufflers on it. It's got the dual exhaust, but I think a new set of mufflers would really make the exhaust tone hellish. It's good and loud now, but there's room to improve.

I'm thinking something from Spintech or Flowmaster, but I'm not all too familiar with the fitting types of the older cars.

I have a 2001 mustang with a pair of Spintechs.

Anyone have any suggestions where to look for some advice?

Have you considered going with old school style chambered muffs? I know several muscle car guys who have picked these things back up and their cars sound truely wicked.

As far as regular mufflers, are you asking what would fit the best on your car, or are you asking for opinions on muffler brand for sound?

Unless there is some mopar guys on here to tell you, you may want to hit a mopar specific message board to ask about exactly what configuration of muffler works best.

I know on chevelles & elkys (what i know best) the best fitting ones are Offset/Offset mufflers. Since the Cuda's and Chally's had leaf springs in the back, i'm not sure how the exit end would need to snake through stuff.

There are a lot of Cuda's and Chally's running Muff's with the IN/Out on the front side of the muff, then the Out can dump in front of the rear tire, and that looks kind of tough- but would definitely be an aquired taste...

As far as what brands- If you dig the spintech sound on your newer car- go with it, it sounds even cooler on the older carbed cars!

My dad has flowmaster 50 series on his 72 roadrunner but i do not know what in and out they are tell us how loud or quiet you would like it
