I am trying to pull the carrier out of a Chevy 8.5" rear end. I have the cover off, and I pulled the bolt out of the pin that goes through the spider gears. I have been trying to drift the spider gear pin out all day. I am driving it from the side of the carrier opposite the bolt. It won't budge. Am I missing something
?
Did the end of the retaining bolt break off inside, I have had that happen. It's been a while but you should have a non threaded section on the bolt about 3/4's of an inch long. If not it may be broke off inside, and it ain't easy to get out of there. It's been so long I forgot how I got it out, but it's hardened so really hard to get a hold of.

are the axles pulled out of the carrier?????? if they are and the 4 bolts that hold the carrier caps are out it should fall right out on its own
No the axles are still completely installed, I am trying to get the spider gear pinion out so that I CAN pull the axles. The entire assemply is still together except for the securing pin that holds in the spider gear pinion. I need to get the pinion out of the way so I can slide the axles in to get the C Clips out the will release the axles. This thing is totally kicking my but. BTW the diff is a Gov Loc G-80 if that makes a difference.Quote:
