Can someone explain to me in 100 words or less what a Hemi is and how it differs from a non-hemi? Haven't learned anything new today and don't want to close her out without adding some knowledge. Thanks!!

To add to what techinspector1 consisely explained, Hemi is short for Hemispherical. The combustion chamber is in the shape of a half dome or hemisphere. Do a web search on "Hemi" and you will probably come up with some pictures and diagrams that will give you a good visual.
Let the quest for knowledge continue!

The reason they have the hemi head is that they need the valve capability and cooling prowess in order to raise compression and keep up with the factory V8s! However, i have to agree with streets on one thing. The HEMI is the only great mopar. With that in mind, should you get your hands on a 440, there is now a conversion kit that will include the nessicary pieces for a hemi head coversion. I wish that my dad had kept his 440 powered New yorker around longer!
How's this for the short version
HEMI
Not A HEMI
Hemi
A Chevy hemi
wtf, lol
Check out this hemi www.69gtx.com coming soon blown 540 hemi on pump gas lol
My dad told me that quite a while back there was a hemi head available for the old Ford flathead V8s. He said they were moderately popular with the drag racer crowd, but that is all the info he could supply. How about any of you old seasoned geezers? Have you had any experience with these heads and are they still available. I myself have no need for them, but I saw there is a company building Ford flat head V8 motorcycles. I thought it would make a bang up bike to have a hemi Ford in it. Just a thought.
They were made by an outfit named Ardun. I don't know too much about them other than they looked impressive and were reported to make some good HP gains (for their time). I suspect finding a complete set to include all the little pieces like valve train componets valve cover etc would not be real easy or cheap.
I've seen pictures of the flathead powered bike (neat toy), to put one of these in you would need to totally remake it to clear the heads and need long legs to wrap around the engine and hold it up.
YUP, it would take some pretty long legs:LOL:
Blown 528 HEMI. Now shoehorned into a Duster. Another plus about HEMI's is that sparkplugs are easy to reach.

Looking at the way it's coupled to the intake and noticing the blowoff plate on the side of the unit I say it's a freakshow supercharger. Probably used for land speed record stuff or something like it that requires ungodly amounts of power.
