cooling and steering stops
I have a couple questions. First question is about fan position. I think my fan is to far from the radiator for good pull. How close must it be? It's on the motor and not the radiator. Second, on a straight axle can you remove the steering stops? This thing has no turning radius at all with them on. Will it hurt to that them off? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks...

Generally the fan should be within an inch of the core, a shroud helps but shouldn't be a substitute.
As for the stops, it depends on what the tire will hit if it can swing further, e.g. radius rods, frame, fenders, and so on. Also, will your brake hoses have enough slack to make the arc, and/or not so much as to kink. The stock stops can be turned or ground down to increase travel if the above don't become an issue.Your Uncle Bob, Senior Geezer Curmudgeon

Thanks! I will have to get an electric fan. My fan is over 3" away at the top. I wiill check and see if I can grind the stops a little bit.

Before you go with electric you might try putting a spacer between the fan and the pulley.Ken Thomas

You said the fan is 3" away at the top is it not 3" at the bottom also. The fan won't pull properly if the radiator is on an angle.Charlie

Thanks to all for your help. I think I have it now! My new fan is about 3/4 of an inch away and seems to pull a whole lot better! Thanks again!!
And a Happy Birthday Wish for Mr. Spears. Hope you can have a great one. :)
