Would you use this gearbox?
Hello to all again,
another question or maybe advice here. Putting together a 390 for my '41 Hudson truck and want to go with manual trans again. (used a D. Kee toploader in my last truck). Now you may laugh me off the forum for this one but I still would appreciate any first hand experience here.
I have a NP435 box out of a Ford pickup complete with everything, now I know it's got the granny gear and is a wide ratio unit but as i have it is it worthy of consideration for use in my project? I'm not interested in tyre smoking off the lights just good all round use.At this point I haven't built the rearend which is a Ford 9" so gear ratios there can be looked at to suit if I did use it. So who's had one and what are they like for general use?
If it's any use for maybe ID purposes on the right side of the case is C-96391.2 next to that is NP in like a starburst surround next to that is a triangle with a small circle inside it with a 2 underneath and on left side is 10415. From what I can find this is a 4speed unit (no syncro on first) but looks as tough as hell. If it's junk please tell me and I'll start saving for another toploader.
Thanks in advance.
Hudsonguy.
