Well, the ship has been detuned to 48% design rated power. It had a nasty tendancy to put its near 3 foot diameter pistons through the cylinder head at 514 RPM. Our top speed went from just over 22 knots to 19.3 or something with a 52% decrease in power. Rumor is the sister ship killed an engineer who was standing next to the engine when it ejected a connecting rod through the side of the block.

I don't speak Italian, mais je parle un peu de francais, so I really don't know. But, I think I'll hazzard a guess and say it means, American Made Boat.

In WW11 the only part the Italian tank mechanics had to pack with them was the reverse gear for the transmissions......The cylinders have to be inline.!!!

We don't have reverse gear, instead, we shift the cams and turn the engines backwards.

I knew that, and the name is Sean.
An interesting thing about the construction of the engine is that instead of the usual poured lead alloy main bearings, it has aluminum bearing shells. This caused a bit of a problem when running at full power because the aluminum would fuse to the steel of the crank. It also has articulated rods, one rod is rigid and the other branches off by means of a wrist pin. Maybe I'll put some pictures up one day.

Here are some pics, they aren't very good, but they should suffice.
I am in none of them as they were taken during this summer's cruise.

Mike was a great guy with a lot of knowledge and always had good things to say. May he rest in peace. I hope he's up there playing with hot rods now as well.
