I have a 1956 Pontiac and it's a bear trying to find parts. I hear some 56 Chevy parts will work (i.e. Glass, hardtop window flappers, window regulators). Does anyone know if there is any truth to this?
The most important part I am looking for is a steering column. I can't find a pontiac, but there's a thousand Chevy catalogs. Thanks for the info!
some stuff does change over. get a hollander interchange manual for the correct year span. that will tell you everything that interchanges.
That looks like a realy useful guide, but infortunately I don't have the $50.00 to buy one. Mainly, I'd be happy just to find out about the steering column. Thanks for the info though.
are you looking for an orginal one ? need to know what tranny you have, chev (auto ) were powerglide, pontiac had a bigger trans as you know,
our local wrecking yard use to have a 55? or 56? ponty ,which should be the same I'll have to check
It's got the Dual-Range Hydra-Matic Automatic Transmission. The Gear indicator doesn't have a Park, just Neutral. I have the indicator and a wheel, but the bearings are gone and some other parts seem to have broken further down. The engine is a 316, but I think all smallblocks that year were 316's.
Checking to see if anyone's had personal experience with this or knows if the steering columns are interchangeable. Thanks!
