Are 305 heads worth putting on a 350 engine. The block is a cast#: 3892657 1964-1967 two bolt main. From what I can gather online, the heads are a cast# 376450 1975-1981 and have a 60cc chamber. with these heads restict the engine or will the small chamber help the compression ratio. I want to build the engine for a street machine but i don't want to get too radical, I still want reliability and longevity. I will be placing the engine into a 1978 Chevy 1/2 ton short-bed pickup.
The 305 heads are chokers.
In the old days, people built compression by changing heads. Now days, enough pistons can be had (for cheap) that will build compression, so you can tune your heads for what they do...BREATHE.
Open chambers, big ports, big valves (with all else equal) will always flow better. Let your heads breathe!!!

Some heads that wont cost a small fortune...
The new 64cc cast iron vortech heads can be had for about $400 fully assembed with springs and valves, have acc bolt holes, have Hardend Seats for unleaded gas and flow much better than even the old Camel Hump heads.

The Fastburns are in the same price range I believe. Not sure on the pros and cons of one over the other.
the old 2-barrel 327/350 heads were 1.720 intakes and they ran fine with a 2BBl. 4 barrels won't work well with them but a big 2bbl will. 305=1.840 valves.. joe
The best large-bore 2-barrels I've found have been the Holley 4412, and some of the early Motorcraft/Autolite 2100's.
The 4412 is like half of a 4150 4-barrel, and you can put the adjustable metering plate from Barry Grant on it just like the 4-barrel.
NOT a 64-67 block.. just a '67 block ..350's weren't made in '64-'66 and in '67 they were small journals like the 265-327's are...
