It seems I have a blue '85 Volvo 240, and another 351W stroker (my bud backed out of the deal) to play with. The Volvo was my daily driver until the other cars were done.
Volvo 240 + 426ci Ford + 5 speed = rice hunter!!!

Ha Ha Ha Streets. I diddnt think that you were that senile, but then again, what do we youngin's know, huh?
I admit my daily driver is a 4 cyl (built in Spring hill Tn Thank you)that I've had some fun with. I've owned a couple of V8's in the past and my next project (my first "TOY") is slated for V8 install.
I like V8's but I'm really impressed with what modern science and technology has been able to do to these 4 cyl engines. Instance my daily driven 4 banger gets 38MPG but pulls a VERY traction limited 15.5 in the 1/4 and with A little bit of N2O I run mid 14's. Nothing to write home about until you consider that those times beat allot of V8 cars that get 15-25 MPG and have sky high insurance rates.
If you want to see how wild these little guys can get take a look at what GM performance has done with the Ecotec drag racing program Click here please has done. 1,000 HP on a stock block, reworked stock head, stock oiling system and stock timing gear. All out of an engine with only 127 ci. Pretty amaizing if you ask me. I can't wait until the technology trickles down to V8's THEN we'll have some impressive V8's.

MPG NOS
MPG NOS whats MPG and NOS? We don't need no stinkin NOS or MPG:LOL:
:) :) I've gotta have my NOS...As long as it stands for "New Old Stock"......MPG ??...Thats for worry warts..
Nope, MPG is for those of us who don't yet have a "TOY" car and have to drive our cars daily. Not saying that when you build a streetrod MPG should be much of a concern, just for your "A" to "B" machine. Oh and N2O is great for helping the lil' buggers get around 18 wheelers on twisty 2 lane roads.

Yeah..whatever..
You want to play from Dansville to sonyea exit? OK, I need about 2 weeks to get my 403 in :D and find a GOOD t200R4  . Then yeah, I can play. However, there is one catch, you have a Radar Detector? The Cops like to hide out under the sonyea bridge, and overlooking The Flats in the middle. I have one, and nowadays, their needed.
I hate to tell you this, but your "little 383" Is a small block, my "big?" 403 is also a small block. Im not expecting to just waste you all out, Im expecting a good romp across the miles. My 403 is newly rebuilt(cunundrum), I need to break it in. Thats why the 2 weeks, thats why the 350 heads, and thats why an oldsmobile. After all, why go with the crowd when you can be an individual?
A cunundrum is a seeming contradiction. Newly rebuilt is, at least in my eyes, a kind of contradiction. Think about it, the block is at least 20 years old, yet a rebuilt engine is commonly better than a newly produced one. Think about it.
Oh,Oh, I feel that Streets is about to give somebody a lesson!:D
A conundrum is primarily defined as a riddle, the answer to which involves a pun or a play on words. Secondary def. is something that puzzles.
Perhaps the term oxymoron (no streets jokes now!) would be more appropriate. You know, like, Senate ethics committee, or jumbo shrimp. Then there's my automotive favorite from an all too common ad; "All original. New paint, new upholstery, mag wheels, almost new tires. Engine rebuilt 10,000 miles ago......
Amen!!!! The older the Buck. The thicker the Horn!! De youngins will figger dat out ssome day:D :D :D
Uncle Bob....Oxymoron...Always thought it meant an "Airhead"..Like too much oxygen in the brain...Webster says."A combination of contradictory words"...(as in cruel kindness)...or as you put it...Senate==jumbo shrimp...maybe it should be Dumbo Shrimp..Seems "oxymoron" pretty much sums up.."Organized Government"...Like dealing with Washington state's DOL..DMV..WSP..etc...All you get are morons and oxymorns!!!...If Uncle Sam asked me again to go fight for our freedom.. I'd do it in a heart beat.. Just loan me a weapon and drop me off in Olympia Washington..
OK, lets see, First off all, I have been called, lets see if I get this right, a "youngin who has not considered the weight if his lead sled, which cost a dime for 12 apparently(unless your a baker) and has no indivuality" am I right? Now, lets run a poll, shall we? Lets see if anyone else out there runs an cutlass with a 403 vs who runs a t-bucket with a small block chevy (Oh, REALLY ORIGIONAL!) OK? mind you, we can factor in the year, any kind of heads, intake, valves and other factors you want. I bet that my sled, if you will, is not another sheep project. If I went with the 350, OK. If I went with the 455 again, ok. But I though hot rodding was supposed to be based upon the idea that you were allowed to expand upon what you had and think of wha others havent, or take exisiting ideas and expand upon them. Heh, shows what i know. Tell me, which way to the sheep covention? I need a 350 chevy, 350 olds or 302 ford engine.
I got one up on you in the "un"originality contest. I bought my 78 Regal Turbo Sport Coupe for $150 and was pleased to find a 0014 355 nestled between me and the world. Unfortunately the motor was yellow so I pulled it and rebuilt it properly w/ some nice black motor paint and a 218 duration Crane cam to go with the edelbrock 750 and performer rpm it also came with. Incidentally it has 993 heads w/ hardened seats, only 1.94 valves though. Some people (Lingenfelter) think smaller port sizes equal higer velocity cfms so I run the goodie out of my sleeper up to 5000 (w/ manifolds and y pipe, sans converter)! This is great fun just picking the right cam for this beast(which ran hard when I got it, before I scraped some grease off and saw it was yellow=]... Unoriginal can be awesome, not to mention mustang spankin FAST!
OH Boy, I had no idea sleds where so cheap. I thought T's where the cheaper ride and thats why everyone and there sister built em. Gotta say T's, roadters, etc are mighty fine (includin' that 23 bannana hammock Streets owns) Though sumpthin bout a low slung 2 tons of steel molded to the road has always fancied my appitite, and I don't know anyone else with a 54 Plydo, chopped, de-doored, quite like mine, I'm sure theres good reason (but aint stoppin me). Though I am seriously considering a 30 coupe project here soon. I like roofs!
I don't know Streets yer kind has done a pretty good job with the preservation of pre-war iron(and glass). When I go through all the mags I've managed to get my grubby young hands on the "Sled vs Hotrod" ratio looks pretty even. Less of course those mags are just good at pleasing both sides of the coin to make a coin. Theres no dought in my mind more 50's vehicles are still in existance than prewar but hotrods have always been the leading shoe in the auto world. Inspiring kids and adults into the hobbie. Disclaimer: This is an uneducated oppinion from mere random deduction and the sponsors of this network do not warrenty or garrenty products or opinions bye this relatively new in years student.
what?.. Iwant to talk about cars that work, not whose opinion concernining the vague semantics of the definition of a "hot rod' look it up I guess; Im gonna go look for a 5spd 302 to spank w/ my Buick-yeah I said Buick. Jealous? lol But you guys all seem cool. It sounds a little like bustn rally guys cause you like Nascar.. or something. Doesn't anybody think putting chevy motors in fords is a little sacriligious anyway? My Buick rtsc only weighs 3400; I thought you guys were talking about leaded gas at first! Oh yeah I guess I have a 47 dodge step stide in the pipes, would some of you like that more? It will probably have a forged bottom sb chevy so you cant make fun of me for not spending money, even though I know you're just jealous of my Sporty Couper-Thanks-enjoy
Oh, I get it, the Old Man "hot rods" on the coasters are because our countries more uptight states require stricter emissions standards, am I close? Cause, we have tons of bucket metal laying around, maybe I should use some of it before it rusts away completely. It seems each day has only so many hrs... I still can drive my lead-brain mobile with considerable skill and I take a little pride in the whole setup.. I still feel like I built the motor at least. Last time I was in NYC fuel was like, 347 a gallon, if I were building cars there I would most likely take a different tact. I think it would be a little cooler to do some thing like a later model 7 series beamer in sb chevy, they are excellent drivers and they can be classy? Your thoughts? "Let's Roll" - Thanks
PS whats a "Plydo"? And does the hemi in the pic below my screen name have pink plug wires? That would be uncool
Okay, maybe I hit a little ford nerve there, and you gotta have some nerve to drive a ford, especially an old leaky one. lol lol ha ha he he. Seriously though your tudur sounds like a monster and Im just glad you don't live around here to embarass me w/ it. But some of us are poor and that wouldn't be a very fair race, huh?
OK, I hate to drag on a conversation that should have died days ago, but here goes. Streets, do me a favor. Quote me the part where I said I would blow the doors off from you. Better yet, tell me where I predicted the outcome at all! One should not predict on what one is not familiar.
