Fire damage to a motor
A friend bought a V8 fairmont to convert his fairmont wagon to a V8 and the donor car had a engine fire, the fire was mainly in the carb and distributor area and got one valve cover hot. The motor has a slight noise comming from the front and I am wondering if a fire could get hot enough to damage a valve spring or something in the valve train. Jeff

Not really, however, if the engine was running it could have leaned out and damaged a valve as the fuel was consumed.

I agree , it would have to get pretty hot to damage it internally, and from your description, the fire wasn't that serious. The noise was probably there prior to the fire, and unrelated. Pull both valve covers and see what it looks like inside.

You might want to pull the timing cover and check things out. Hank
