is there anything better than por 15 for rust?
rumor around here is por 15 sucks, spray in bedliner, paint, undercoat, anything but that crap, thats my opinion.
If I have rust metal I wire brush as much of the rust off that I can . I then apply Ospho, wait 2 days, remove the blk residue & prime w/PPG's epoxy primer. All the body work is then done.
A lot of people use POR-15 but, I look at it as a quick fix....not the best fix. Here is a Body/paint site that you might want to visit.

I use POR-15, but not to cure rust, but to prevent it. I blast all the pieces and etch them before I use the POR-15. If you check out the pics of the chassis in my gallery pics, you will see everything on the chassis is coated with POR-15.
I also use it with fiberglass matt on the interior floorboards. It helps with sound deadening and also adds strength to the overall body/chassis and leaves a nice looking matt finish.

where i'm using the por 15 i wire brushed it all away, i was just wondering what was better. i'm lazy, but not that lazy.

www.autobodystore.com Sorry I think this will work. Don
I like Rust Bullet, it can be used on clean metal or rusty metal without etching, any paint will go over it, filler, fiberglass, UV resistant, and no sanding between coats

Interesting, most rust converters use an acid to react with the rust in a similar process to the bluing of gun barrels. I looking at the MSDS sheet and this stuff has aluminum in it. So, using my basic knowledge of chemistry, it creates a thermite reaction, pulls the oxygen from the iron and creates coat similar to galvanizing.
