I don't see why you couldn't go to a fad shop and tell them what you want. Thats what I did in my 38 they cut the pcs. and I welded it together.Last edited by cffisher; 11-06-2006 at 07:18 PM.

What gauge aluminum is recomended, location of baffles (Drag racing), position of fuel sending unit, location of inlet and outlet (size also),etc. If you guys have any good links also. This will be in a truck with a carb.

..... Hi Big Truck Driver, when I worked in a small welding shop we had a larger shop with a bender bend the material so that we didn't have as many welded joints. I guess what I'm saying is that if you don't have a bender you might want to concider 'farming' this out. I remember doing quit a few diesel tanks for the back of pick up trucks & they looked a lot better & more professional with fewer welds...... I'm in the process of looking for my NHRA rule book but so far can't find it. I'll post any fuel tank specs if I find it.... bill

you may want to make the take out of .090 3003 alum or 16 gauge pickled steel you can add two baffles. i punch some holes in the baffle walls . for drag racing you want the pick ups in the back of the tank and at the bottom or the bottom to the back side. you can make a sump to pick up the fuel at the lowest point you will need some bungs you can make them or buy then for racing you want two for fuel AN8 or 10 and one vent at the top AN 6 and i run the float on the sender front to back so the fuel will not work the float side ways when the fuel moves back and forth

if you tig weld it and use .090 it will not need to roll beads in the tank you do not want the baffles to hold fuel up for the pick up to draw up? the fuel will move to the back of the tank this is were you want the pick ups the baffles brake a big tank up so the fuel will not fly out of the filler neck and helps slow it down when moving if you over baffle the tank if may not get good fuel supple if you block the pick ups
Happy really late birthday Mike! Lol
