I have recently spent countless hours scraping the rubberized undercoating from the bottom of my 72 monte carlo. The floorpans and frame have all been sand blasted. What can be used in lieu of the rubberized undercoating? I have been looking at por 15 chassis black semi gloss. Also por 15 metal mask for the rearend and suspension parts. Does anyone have any experience with these products? any help would be appreciated. I want the bottom of the car to look immaculate. thanks
Put the body on a rotisserie, sand, prime, and paint just like the outside of the car... Por 15 works ok, but hardly qualifies as immaculate.
I wish i could put it on a rotisserie but the car is rolling and running. IT had a frame off in 1997 but I don't like the rubberized stuff that was applied. I figured since I went this far, I should tidy it up a bit. thanks
As Dave S has said, clean and prep as you would the body. POR-15 applied over clean (no rust) really doesn't work worth a darn. Also, it is photosensitive - will deteriorate and change color without a top coat. If the car is worth it, then an epoxy primer with a good multi coat single stage urethane paint will do the best job of preservation - anything else in Florida is a waste of your time and money. Or put down a fresh coat of premium undercoat and forget about it. Also, the interior floor should also have a good epoxy prime as well.
Thanks for the advise. I just ordered extreme chassis black aerosal cans and extreme chassis black primer from eastwood company. Both are epoxy based and customer service said that they are resilient and popular. I ordered POR 15 metal mask for the rearend and suspension parts to give them the metalic look.
we like to use bedliner spray on the bottom of real drivers , it gets hard and is easy to clean .
yeah I think it is called rhino coating.
Me too, used that on the bottom and the inner fenderwells on my pickup, works great!!! Helps quiet the truck from road noise a bit, too....Quote:
