Painting Suspension Parts

What is your favorite brand and model of spray bomb to paint suspension parts? It's not going to be for my Nova project as those will all be powdercoated. I'm rebuilding the front end of my '61 T-Bird and replacing the Drum brakes with '65 T-Bird Disc brakes(Wilwood and Baer don't make disc brake kits for my year car!) so now that I have all the parts I wanted to paint them so that they are protected from the elements and clean up easy! I usually just use a high gloss spray bomb from HD but I was wondering if there was a paint that I am not aware of that's more durable for this part of the car?

Good question - I've always wondered the same.

Perhaps rather than a brand name, someone will comment on which paint type is best.

If you are blasting the parts, DupliColor self-etching primer has worked well for me. It gives a good protective and adhesive surface. And it sprays on real easy, as it has a wide 'fan' nozzle. For suspension parts, I don't think the cover coat choice is that important if a good primer is applied first.

The fan nozzle definately applies a better coat of paint as it allows the ability to properly overlap the previous pass.

I know some companys like Eastwood sell Chassis Black paint that supposedly has the proper gloss and is very tough. Just this week when I was at the paint store, I noticed aerosol cans of paint and primer there, and they were by name brand companys like Dupont, etc. I suspect they are slightly better than the hardware store varieties, but I have had good luck with Rustoleum and Krylon brands in the past.

I have to admit, there were times in the past week that I was tempted to bugbomb some of the parts on my T. :rolleyes:

Usually I use "trim black", from SEM. It is a flat/semigloss black, and a direct replacement for GM's Trim Black. It requires no primer coat, and gets great adhesion.

HRP i shot my Stang suspension with that but it hasn't hit the road yet . I do like the semi gloss look on those parts though .

I worked at a Chevy dealer from '67 through '69, and remembered all of those chassis and body pieces coming in that finish.
