I recently bought a Ford 460 motor and now I'm trying to decide what to put it in. When I was a kid I owned a 63 Sprint Convertible. My buddy says I should get another one and squeeze the 460 in it. Is this possible? Did the 63 Falcons have a frame or were they "Unibodies?"
They have a front end the same as the first Mustangs, which were based on the Falcon. The shocks and springs are above the upper A-frames and too close together to allow a 460 without surgery. The six-cylinder cars were even narrower than the V8 ones, and they had little brakes and 4-bolt wheels.
the frames were the same 6 cyl, or v/8. if you want a falcon go with the 66 up. the 460/ 385 series fit in. its the same as a fairlane. a 351 also fits into the round body 60-63 falcon. crites has parts that make the job easy.
roundbodies have the narrowest engine bay and a 460 will not fit w/o using a MII front end. yesterday at the syracuse nationals I saw a '63 with a twin turbo 460, owner said over 2k on paper, but he's never dynod
All the Falcons are Unibody cars....The years til '64 have the narrow towers. A small block fits in their nicely with the stock towers, but a 460 will require some major surgery or a MII suspension package. To tie the car together, also plan on some frame ties and at least a 6 point cage....
IMO a 460 is a natural swap for the fox bodied Mustangs from '79 to '93. You end up with a more modern platform and suspension than the earlier cars, they are available everywhere cheap, and even a mild 460 will put you in the low 12's or 11's.
Kits and headers are available to make the swap a pretty much bolt in affair, and if you want a convertible, they are just as good to do this swap. I also have a 460 sitting that was to go into our Capri, but plans changed. But we freed up a lot of space for it with a D and D front end and manual brake setup. Wish I hadn't sold the car to my Son, as it would have made a nice little 10 second daily driver. :eek: :D :D

Used to have a buddy here in Central Fl. in 60s, I had Hi-po 289 in 63 Falcon he had 390 ,but had to straight axle it for space.
