1951 Lincoln Sport Sedan....questions
Hey everybody,
A good friend of mine is picking up a 1951 Lincoln Sport Sedan for pretty cheap....about 1,000 bucks, it looks alot like an early 49-50 Mercury. From what i understand the car is in descent shape, hasnt been picked apart or anything, everything is there, i assume we could get it to run or start at least.
Basically hes not sure about what to do. hes like me with too many cars/projects and hes not sure if he should keep this one and sell something else he has or just clean it up and sell the 1951 lincoln,.....if something is coming in then something has to go out.....his wifes rules
Can anybody help us out and tell me more or anything about this car. Like whats up with the motor, its the Lincoln flat-8, are these motors good for hot rodding?? or were there inherant problems with the Lincoln motors, i know about flatheads always running hot, but would this Lincoln motor have a 4" crank like the Merc.???
Since the body looks very similiar to a 49/50 mercury, are there any interchangable body panels??, would the rear skirts, glass, anything be interchangable??
This is all i know about it.....it has the automatic trans option, its not the lincoln cosmopolitan (like i thought it was), its a series EL - 4 door sports sedan, (yes i know rear doors are for taxi's)there were 12,279 of them made out of 32,594 lincolns made that year.
So basically im completely ignorant about this car.....can somebody shead some light on this for me.......thank you in advance
This is a picture of a 1951 lincoln sports sedan........not the car we will be pulling out of the weeds/dirt
