Mustang II front or new frame?

Well I wanted to put disk/power brakes and power steering:D on my 51 chevy deluxe:rolleyes: and was wondering what would be the best or most economical way of doing so.:rolleyes:

I have heard of going to a Mustang II IFS front end or getting a frame off of a newer model car and using that:HMMM: , the Mustang front sounds like it would be better but I do not know too much about this subject yet:confused:

Any input would be greatly appreciated :)

i did mine before any one made the mustangII front end i clip a camaro front end on to the old frame work good if you can fab. this opens up the front of the frame for a bigger engine so it work good for me all chey brake parts

I would recommend putting a Mustang II front end in your 51 chevy; Its a fairly easy install if you know a little about fabrication. The parts to do the conversion are readily available and cheap. While I was at SEMA I saw a new company called Helix that is offering a u weld mustang II front end kit and it is very inexpensive. It looks like very nice quality and made from 3/16" steel. It is a universal kit that includes instructions how to measure your frame and notch the pieces accordingly; so if you have a welder you can do it. they come with step by step instructions with pictures. Dollar for Dollar this is the best kit i've seen recently. if you use a camaro or nova clip it will widen your track width and make the car look funny in my opinion. The width from wheel mounting surface is over 2" wider than your stock width, so your front tires won't tuck under the fenders like they should and they will stick out.

I went to the Helix website and it's not completely up yet, but you could probably give them a call from the number listed.

so my chevy looks funny:D oh ok :confused: the wheels are in the fenders could they be in one 1 inch in per side yes but it not that big of a deal to fix

As I recall the 51 Chevy had the upper frame spring mount built into the frame, thus the Must II X-member will not fit.

If you want to go Must II you have to order a X-member that has frame stubs welded on the back of it. The frame is then cut off in front of the firewall.

Fatman fab makes one made like this. The X-member also contains mounting points for the core support.

You might want to consider a 77-87 GM mid size car(Monto Carlo/El Camino/Regat...etc.) or a Camaro sub frame( the camaro is around 3- 3 1/2" more track width.
