In a Pinch

Hey guys/gals!

What can I use as a substitute for a head gasket on a 49cc single cylinder 2-stroke? :confused: I cannot find gaskets for this engine anywhere. As you know it needs to be inprevious to oil, and resistant to high temp and high pressure.

you see, thats the whole thing. its a chinese engine, i have no idea who made it.

I've made head gaskets out of soft copper sheet. Tap the bolts through first, then cut it to shape. I used the hobby shop stuff, the kind used for copper tooling artwork, it's soft enough to conform to any small irregularities, which is why you need a gasket in the first place.

Is it a air cooled cylinder?

If so you can just lap the head and torque it down

If its not flat, put a circle of wire solder arond the bore and torque it down

If you feel creatatif, you can cut a circle out of a beer/pop can with ordinary scissors and use for a gasket

You can also cut a groove in the head or cylinder for a copper or stainless wire o ring
