Coating For Cast Aluminum Valve Covers

I recently purchased a set of vintage Edelbrock cast aluminum finned valve covers. The previous owner had them beautifully media blasted. They look great. However, I know that over time, aluminum tends to discolor. Is there some kind of coating I should put on the covers? I was thinking clear coat, but then they would be glossy. I like the bare cast look. Can anyone suggest something? Can they be powder coated?

I agree that this stuff is hard to keep clean once blasted. Seems to open up some pores that catch dirt more easily. I had an intake blasted and clear coated one time and it sort of turned it gray. Didn't look real to me.

I hope someone on here has some answers. Maybe you are just going to have to rebead blast them occasionally?

Don, isn't that a shame. 2 old Pittsburgeese, sitting around on a Saturday night. 30 or 40 years these young bucks would have never kept up with us!!!

Donnie G...so you're telling me they have a brushed aluminum powder coat???? That's probably the way I'll go. Thanks for your help.

powder coat isn't the ultimate solution,however it's one of the best arround
as a side bar to looking good,any oil spills and dribbles just wipe off.:)

My local powder coaters have used a transparent color on aluminum. This one was a candy green look, but I am sure there are more colors, as well as clear, and aluminum.

I've had some aluminum parts powder coated, very pleased with the results!!! Seems to be much more durable then the old clear coat over aluminum method!

That stuff works great,but it's for polished aluminum.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

I've decided to go with Diamond Clear Satin from Eastwood. Sounds exactly the look I want. At $11.99 a can, (shipping was almost as much as the paint) it's worth the try. Thanks to CHR member Cookster for the suggestion.

If it doesn't work I will probably go with the powder coating.

the enamel clear rattle can stuff will yellow under the hood.

High temp aluminum in the rattle can seems to hold up well.
( looks KILLER on header wrap )

Clear coat ( or aluminum ) powder coat is probably your best bet.
