Does anyone know what a genuine 38 ford front axle would be worth chromed and dropped? There is a local guy who has one but he only trades. I just would need a ballpark estimate so that I can figure out what would be a fair trade.
The chrome is great and the axle looks like it has a good drop job and is not worn out at all. I know it would be hard to come up with an estimate without a picture.

Do a google search for hydrogen embrittlement before you buy a chromed suspension part.
Well, as a guide, a new Superbell chromed is about $ 900. Since this is an original (are you sure it is 38, as this are not the ones commonly dropped because of the wide spring perch spacings?) I would pay probably $200-$300 for it myself, especially if the chrome is as nice as you say. Maybe as high as $ 400, but that would be my personal tops on it.

Wow, that hydrogen embrittlement sounds like a nasty beast. I didnt really want a chrome I-beam, I just have the opportunity to possibly obtain one. I may have to reconsider now. Plus Im more of an aluminum person instead of a chrome person.
Don, do you know what the distance between the perches are. I could get a measurment of the said axle and see what it is off of. The guy said it was a 38 axle but he got it with a bunch of other parts and is not really into hot rods and could have be misinformed.
Thank you very much for the link Don. I added it to my favorites. If I dont go for this axle or a superbell, I would love to have an original axle that has been dropped. There is just an old school charm to an original axle that has been dropped.
