Hello All. I have to put a pusher fan in my '46 Ford (350 chev) and have a question as to using a shroud or not. Seems to me this would impede air flow being on the front of the radiator. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks to all.

Hey Bud, Just my opinon, pushers get in the way of air, you would be much better off using a good puller with a shroud, even if you remove the mechanical fan. I don't know your truck/situation, but what's happening? Warming up at idle or slow speed? Do you have a shroud on the existing fan?
Are the sides sealed off so air goes through the radiator and not around it? What fan is on there now?
68ratvt is right, a puller is so much more efficient than a pusher, but I bet you did it because you have no room back there for one. Is that the case?
If you can put a puller back there, do it, with a shroud for sure. But if you have to use a pusher, put the very biggest one you can fit in there, and of a good quality. I'm partial to SPALS myself.

I run a mechanical fan and a pusher electrical fan. I use the pusher for sitting in traffic during the summer. No shroud on pusher fans.
Many Thanks for the info guys. Fraid I'm stuck w/a pusher. I only have 2 1/4 inches between the Rad. and WP pulley. I had to have the fancy Billet Specialties Tru-Track serpentine system and now i'm paying for it. If anyone knows of another slimmer fan please let me know. Thanks again.
I had the same problem on my 37 and I went with a pusher and it works OK for me. It doesn't even come on when I'm
crusing but when I'm stopped for any length of time, I have it set at 200 degrees and shuts off at 180.

Charly i was searching long time back and if i remember correctly there is one fan thats only 2 1/2 inches think cant remember the name . One trouble spot on most . I'm doing a serp from a 94 mustang . It's like a short water pump on the Chevy gained allmost 1 3/4 for engine move forward.
