Texas State Title question
Is it true that TEXAS state titles prior to 1955 did not have the VIN on them, but rather the serial number of the engine???Allengator

Dont know about Texas, but it was true for Missouri. I had a 52 Chevy coupe that the inspection station refused to pass because the title number didn't match the tag on the car. Luckily a retired service station owner told me that it was the engine ID number that was on the title. I almost sold the car for parts before I talked to him!

My car's original title (Louisana) had the engine number on it as the car VIN. In fact the Title VIN wasn't even the engine in at the time. It was the original 6 cyl engine that it came with in 1934.Initially amusing,
but it wasn't amusing after PA DOT got a hold of the Title. They were a tad unhappy and that made my life very unhappy for about 8 weeks.

Defintitely a big Texas "NO" pardner! on that one. My 1934 Ford Texas title definitely has the VIN number on it.
I can't remember a singular event that triggered this nuttiness so I'll say it was being born. After we moved from Kansas to Chicago (I was 5 then) we'd drive back down each summer to visit the...
