That's a sweet looking truck, Rick.
I put this latch on the last two '40 Fords I built. I know yours isn't a '40, but I bet this latch will work. It's available from Rocky Hinge, but it's actually a VW/Audi part. I like it because it's compact, durable, has a integral secondary latch, and is easy to install (but you will also need a release cable kit). You can get it for about $65 directly from Rocky Hinge, or some speed shops sell the exact same thing for less money. I got mine from Minnesota Hot Rod Hardware for about $55.

I got one like that for my 41 Ford pu at the wrecking yard for $5.00. I took it off a Volkswagon.

I used one of those VW Rabbit latches on my 48' F1. It worked really good. I bought mine directly out of a VW dealers parts counter

Any pictures of how you mounted it? The hood on my Caddy tilts forward and I will eventually need to find a way to hold it down.
We managed to get a couple of other small things taken care of. One was blacking out the front of the core support. When the sun hit the front of the car just right that green paint on the core...
