9" axle seals
I have a 9" new style large bearing rear end. It has 31 spline axles that measure 1.530 where the seal makes contact. One side leaks and I can not find a part number for the seal. Anyone know what car/truck would use a similar seal so I could look it up by make/model.....
-
That could be, I've read that there are different axle diameters at the bearing. I find nothing about seal sizes. I just want to be sure before I order them.
-
I don't know why this has been such a problem - even my '57 diff with the OEM 28 spline axles and small bearings caused my parts guys a headache. I need to look up my part numbers and add to my build sheet

Currie CE-8013 is the correct seal for the large bearing Torino-style rear axle.
NAPA NOS15142 is a NOS replacement, I believe, as is National 51098.
I gave up on the seals and installed Currie sealed bearings with o-rings cut in the outer race.

Thanks for those numbers Henry Rifle. With that I was able to cross reference and get dimensions, big help. I've seen bearings listed at 1.531", 1.562', and 1.771" yet none of the seals listed show which axle they are for.
Those Currie bearings look good, I wonder how THESE would compare? And what about using seals and sealed bearings? Any problems doing that?

I had leaks when I had stock sealed bearings and separate oil seals because the axle housing was messed up a bit when it was narrowed. I threw out the oil seals and used the Currie bearings with O-rings. No more leaks. I haven't used a standard oil seal on any of my last three projects with 9" diffs.
If the Mosers have O-rings, I guess you could install the oil seals also, although I never have. Double protection?
-
The Mosers do have O-rings, and they are 1/2 the price. $70 a set not $70ea. That's what I was thinking...Double protection.
-
I wish I had checked closer six months ago.
-
I guess the only question left is are the Curries better than the Mosers? And if so, are they $70 better?

I have the 9" big brng.It came from John's Ind. It had the O-Ring set up and I was concerned that it might leak.I gave him a call and he said he has had little problems with the O-Ring.He said if I wanted the double protection p/u seal #473228 (77 Torino) at Car Quest.
I chose the double protection,so far no problems.
