Water pump/heater hose question

Hello everybody,

I have a water pump heater hose port question. Ive searched the edelbrock web site, and this forum but didnt find info for my question. Basically Iam not sure which heater hose port to use, on the water pump, for the return line from the heater core.

in this side view pic of my water pump, there are 2 heater hose ports on the water pump. can anybody tell me which port is the suction, or the return port from the heater core. Are they both return ports or suction ports????.

Currently i have the heater hose attached to the top port. but i started to think about it, and wondered why there are 2 ports instead of one and now im confused......any help would be appreciated

oh ya.....the water pump is a new, standard direction, short neck edelbrock w.p, the motor is a 350 SBC

I've always used the port on the passenger side.

I checked the 7 small blocks in the shop and all have only 1 water pump heater hose fitting and one on the manifold. The edelbrock 2 x 4 would be difficult to use, but that motor is going into a T bucket . the hot side is the intake with the return going into the top of the water pump.. I have had to burp some systems. ;;; slide the top heater hose half way off and drill a small air bleed hole. put the hose all the way back on start the engine and warm it up... loosen the hose, slide it out to uncover the bleed hole and when the air stops and the antifreeze starts coming out slide it back on ...tighten the clamp ...other times I have had to fill the coolant recovery bottle, warm the engine and hope it burps the air out into the bottle, spray cold water on the radiator and it would suck coolant back into the radiator, repeat until it stops burping..
