If you have a TSC (tractor supply) or probably any other farm supply store in your area you can buy bolts, nuts, and washers by the pound there. It's much cheaper than Lowe's and you can mix and match your selection. They usually come in three grades: standard,(hardware store stuff) grade 5,(automotive) and grade 8,(high tensile strength). When I go there I usually grab a handfull of a few different sizes to keep in my shop. I almost never have need for a nut or bolt that I can't find in my stash.

I wish we had something like that here; closest thing we have is a Buchiet's Farm Supply and they are about the same price as Lowe's. But it wasn't too bad; I paid about $25 for everything I needed to put the clip together. I've got tons of old Mopar bolts but cleaning them all on a wire wheel really sucks. I need one of thoses little bolt tumblers with the glass bead media.

Didn't know you could get get grade 8's by the pound. Wonder what they charge, compared to by the bolt at Ace." "No matter where you go, there you are!" Steve.

i buy them by the pound have a TSC not far from the shop .i do not wast time cleaning up old bolts less a old oem restore deal .i use the 8s they have a neat gold dip coating .looks good on a new engine build and use them around on the shop . but were i stop.. i will not use there bulk bolts is were you going to bet you life on them. there trace ability is qustionable at best. i have seen them fail before they reach TQ for the grade fastener they are . i buy bolt that have trace ability and class fastener for any thing that going to hold parts on that you do not want to fall off like a lower controle armLast edited by pat mccarthy; 11-25-2012 at 03:00 PM.

It's been a while since I got to put some time in on this one; I spent a few hours wet sanding the front clip and had to rebuild one of the hood hinge mounting edges. Feels good to see a little progress again.

Yeah, last week I did a major garage cleanout, mass throw away, and sold a truckload of parts. I havent had this much room in several years. With the 51 done for the year and space to work I hope to make some serious progress on this one. Got the other side of the hood done today.

Been working on the hood several nights this past week; finally got it to where I could put some etching primer on it. I'll do the other side in a day or so.Last edited by falconvan; 03-13-2013 at 04:32 AM.

Oops, that's a crappy picture. My wife got me an iPad mini for my birthday last week; still trying to figure out the camera.

I went looking for the rear hood brace and found it was missing; bummer! After checking around one of the HAMB members came up with one for a Desoto. The curve was right but the end where it bolted to the hinges was different so after welding on some short tabs I think we're good. Got a coat of etching primer on and hopefully we'll get a trial fit with the hinges bolted on done this week.

You're welcome Mike, glad it worked out for you. Roger, it's taken a few years but my inventory of excess parts has shrunk a fair bit from 1 1/2 garage stalls to about an eight by eight space. ...
