I have always thought that once a steel bodied car was burnt to the ground it was trash, warrped, and rust ridden. And for sure if it has been in storage next to a dumpster outside. Is this correct or is there hope for this car. It is for sale on an auction site and the starting bid is 5,000.00. It has no motor or driveline either, just a burnt carcus and thats it. I think its worth about 150.00 in scrap, whats your thought?
Does he see something we don't? If he could get $150 he should sell, $190 per ton for a whole car where I live.

anything can be fixed, how much you wanna spend is the real question.

It should be Dumpster bound - when a fire does that to a car the physical characteristics of the steel have changed too much to make it a usable/repairable car, Pantara or not.
The fire annealed the steel and this is the simple definition: "a heat treatment that alters the microstructure of a material causing changes in properties such as strength and hardness"
This was an uncontrolled anneal so in other words, it's junk!!!!!
The sad part - someone will probably buy this car and try to restore it:CRY:
Not totally worthless... Even "restructured" as the steel has become, it could be straightened, hammer welded, and smoothed enough to make a good fiberglass mold out of!!!!!! Bring it over, anybody want a glass Pantera?? Oh yeah, gimme a year and about 10K to get the project going....:LOL: :LOL: :LOL:

No mail today, but I'll be sitting by the mailbox tomorrow!!!!! oh yeah, engine and drive train, wheels and tires will only run another $25K, gonna be a real bargain car when it's done, huh?????
If I am not mistaken, you can buy a used Pantera for about 35,000. It would take about 50,000 to fix this thing, nothing but a warped damaged shell with bullet holes in it. The auction ends in 2 days 11 hours, I will posty if it sells or not.
I lived in Defiance Ohio, that is where the factory was where they built these. I was told by a tuner at a roadside, they put 500 miles on each car to break in and fine tune before they were sold. These cars were seen all over town and surrounding county roads all the time, Driven by the tuners tweeking them in.
I have to agree that the cost to replace exceeds the value of this car....However, the factory that built these cars was not located in Defiance Ohio, but Italy by De Tomaso, shipped to the US as completed cars and sold by select Lincoln Mercury dealers..................Quote:

Not to burst your bubble, but the Pantera is a mid engined, rear transaxle driven drivetrain. To attempt to fit an engine in the bonnet (front trunk area) would be a feat not likely to succeed .................Quote:
